Senior UAV Systems Engineer

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead system-level integration of avionics, payloads, sensors, and communication systems across UAV platforms.
  • Configure, integrate, and validate payload systems (EO/IR gimbals, LiDAR, hyperspectral sensors, GPS/IMUs, defense payloads, etc.).
  • Implement and troubleshoot payload communication protocols (MAVLink, Ethernet, UART, RS-232/422/485, CAN, SPI, I2C).
  • Design and optimize RF communication systems for UAV-ground station data and control links.
  • Work with custom/proprietary flight control software for flight control, mission planning, and payload integration.
  • Collaborate on development, customization, and testing of in-house autopilot and navigation features.
  • Integrate embedded computing platforms (Jetson, Raspberry Pi, SBCs) for payload processing and autonomy.
  • Conduct HIL/SIL simulations, real-world testing, and field trials of UAVs and payloads.
  • Support payload calibration, command/control setup, and data management workflows.
  • Develop system documentation, wiring diagrams, test procedures, and integration guidelines.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership in system architecture discussions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in ECE, Electronics, Embedded Systems, or related fields.
  • 3+ years of experience in UAV/drone systems engineering (startup experience preferred).
  • Hands-on experience working on quadcopter, hexacopter, fixed-wing, and VTOL UAV platforms.
  • Strong expertise in RF system design and integration.
  • Experience with custom/proprietary flight control software and ability to work on autopilot integration and testing.
  • Strong knowledge of protocols and interfaces (UART, CAN, SPI, I2C, RS-232/422, Ethernet).
  • Proven experience in payload integration, control, and real-time data handling.
  • Familiarity with ROS, Gazebo, onboard computing systems (Jetson, Raspberry Pi, SBCs).
  • Strong skills in system-level debugging and troubleshooting.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with flight control system development (control algorithms, navigation, sensor fusion).
  • Exposure to ISR, defense, and enterprise payloads (EO/IR, LiDAR, SIGINT).
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and UAV standards (DGCA, defense).
  • Experience with multi-payload setups, modular UAV architectures, and system scaling.
  • Strong documentation, test planning, and reporting abilities.
